Before & aftercare.
Practical preparation and aftercare guidance for sugaring, professional waxing, pregnancy Brazilians, electrolysis and advanced electrolysis at Smooth by Adina Skin.
Sugaring
Before your appointment
- Allow at least around 5 mm of visible hair growth.
- If you have been shaving, around two weeks of regrowth is helpful where possible.
- Gently exfoliate in the days beforehand, but avoid strong exfoliation immediately before treatment.
- Arrive with clean, dry skin and avoid body oils or heavy moisturiser on the area.
- Tell Adina about retinoids, prescription skincare, strong acids, recent peels or laser, medication changes and relevant skin conditions.
First 24–48 hours
- Avoid very hot showers, saunas, spas, swimming and heavy sweating.
- Avoid fragranced products, retinoids, acids and exfoliation on the treated area.
- Wear loose clothing where friction may irritate the skin.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning.
Ongoing care
Once the skin has settled, usually after about 48 hours, begin gentle regular exfoliation and moisturising to help reduce ingrown hairs.
Professional waxing
Before your appointment
- Allow enough visible hair for the wax to grip; professional wax can often remove hair from around 2 mm.
- Avoid sunburn, active irritation and strong exfoliation immediately beforehand.
- Do not apply body oils or heavy moisturiser on the treatment area on the day.
- Advise Adina about topical retinoids, prescription skincare, peels, laser, blood-thinning medication and relevant skin conditions.
First 24–48 hours
- Avoid excessive heat, swimming, spas, saunas and heavy exercise while the skin settles.
- Avoid deodorant, perfume or active skincare on freshly waxed areas if these sting or irritate.
- Avoid tanning and direct sun exposure.
- Do not scratch or pick at the follicles.
Pregnancy Brazilian
Before your appointment
- Tell Adina how many weeks pregnant you are and mention any pregnancy-related changes relevant to positioning or comfort.
- Allow suitable hair growth for the chosen method.
- Wear comfortable clothing and arrive hydrated.
- If you have a pregnancy complication or medical concern about waxing, speak with your maternity provider before treatment.
Aftercare
- Follow the standard sugaring or waxing aftercare above.
- Pregnancy may make normal post-wax redness or sensitivity feel more noticeable.
- Contact your maternity provider for pregnancy-related concerns such as bleeding, contractions, fluid loss, reduced fetal movement or feeling unwell.
Electrolysis permanent hair removal
Before your appointment
- Do not wax, sugar, tweeze, thread or epilate the treatment area.
- Shaving or trimming is permitted between sessions, but leave approximately 3 mm of visible hair for treatment.
- Arrive well hydrated and with clean skin and minimal makeup where possible.
- Avoid excess caffeine immediately beforehand if it increases sensitivity.
- Do not attend with sunburn, active infection, open wounds or irritated skin in the treatment area.
- Advise Adina about medication changes, pregnancy, medical conditions, blood-thinning medication, prescription skincare and allergies.
First 24–48 hours
- Keep the area clean and avoid unnecessary touching.
- Avoid makeup on freshly treated facial areas for at least 24 hours where possible.
- Avoid hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, swimming and heavy sweating.
- Avoid perfume, deodorant, retinoids, acids and exfoliation on the area.
- Protect the area from direct sun exposure.
Healing
Temporary redness, warmth, swelling or small raised follicles may be visible immediately after treatment. Tiny crusts can form over the following days. Allow them to release naturally and do not scratch or pick.
Avoid removing regrowth from the root between electrolysis appointments.
Advanced electrolysis
Before your appointment
- Complete consultation information accurately and disclose relevant medical history and medication.
- Some lesions may require assessment or written medical clearance before treatment.
- Do not apply fake tan to the treatment area.
- Arrive with clean skin free from makeup, oils and heavy skincare.
- Do not attend with sunburn, active infection, broken skin or irritation around the lesion.
- Do not stop prescribed medication, aspirin or blood thinners unless instructed by the clinician who prescribed them.
Aftercare
- Keep the area clean and dry for the period advised.
- Do not scratch, rub, shave over or pick the treated area.
- Allow any crust or scab to detach naturally.
- Avoid makeup, perfume, acids, retinoids and exfoliation until the area has healed.
- Avoid swimming, spas, saunas, steam rooms and heavy sweating during the initial healing period.
